JSC "VNIKTI" is a joint-stock company "Research and Design-Technological Institute of Rolling Stock", a subsidiary of JSC "Russian Railways".

The enterprise was founded in 1956 as an industrial research diesel locomotive institute of the USSR Ministry of Transport Engineering.

The main goal of JSC VNIKTI is to promote the development of railway transport, increase the efficiency and reliability of its operation, create and introduce unique products that have no Russian or foreign analogues and ensure improved quality of railway transport in the Russian Federation and, at the same time, reduced costs.

Based on the results of completed research and development work, the institute develops and implements components and assemblies for newly created and in operation locomotives, freight cars and track machines.

On the basis of JSC VNIKTI, there operates a Rolling Stock Testing Center (IC PS of JSC VNIKTI), accredited in the SSFZhT (Certification System for Federal Railway Transport), which carries out certification, acceptance and other tests for compliance with safety standards of all types of traction rolling stock, and also the most critical units, parts and systems.

carrying out research, development, design and technological work on the creation of traction and special rolling stock, their components and assemblies, high-tech elements and automated control systems, their maintenance;

issuance of the necessary technical documentation for the operation and maintenance of locomotives and special rolling stock;

carrying out research work, developing design and technological documentation, creating and modernizing freight and passenger locomotives;

development of design documentation and creation of units and bogies of freight cars;

carrying out research, design and technological work to improve the efficiency and reliability of special rolling stock, working parts, equipment and control systems

development of electronic control systems for locomotives, including telecontrol, telemetry with the ability to work on a system of multiple traction units (SMET);

development of algorithmic and software for microprocessor control, regulation and diagnostic systems, automatic driving systems for locomotives and special rolling stock;

development, production and testing of prototypes of complex systems for traction and auxiliary drives of new generation locomotives, traction and auxiliary static frequency converters, asynchronous motors, algorithmic and software for microprocessor control systems, regulation and diagnostics of traction and auxiliary drives;

carrying out acceptance, operational and certification tests of diesel locomotives, special rolling stock and components of these types of rolling stock;

development and production of high-tech components of microprocessor technology, unified control panels for equipping diesel locomotives and special rolling stock;

development of main directions and methods for the rational use of fuel, energy and other material resources on modern freight, passenger and shunting diesel locomotives and special rolling stock.

Scientific and technical potential

Today JSC “VNIKTI” is a modern multidisciplinary institute that employs over 500 highly qualified specialists, including 5 doctors and 25 candidates of science. The institute’s staff is replenished with young specialists – graduates of the country’s leading universities.

The experimental base and school of scientific and design personnel created at the institute allow for scientific research, development, production and comprehensive testing of traction rolling stock, cars and track machines and their individual components and systems. The bench department of the institute includes over 40 stands for various types of tests, a climatic testing laboratory, including heat and cold chambers, specialized laboratory cars for carrying out dynamic strength, traction and heat engineering, electrical, braking, vibroacoustic, diagnostic tests of locomotives and cars and track machines.

The results of many years of work by several generations of scientists, developers, and designers allowed the institute to take a leading place in Russia and abroad in the implementation and implementation of large-scale projects for the creation and modernization of rolling stock
